First red flag is walking into a pet store that sells puppies. Do not buy puppies from a pet store!!!!! They are almost garunteed to be from puppy Mills, they are over priced and not taken care of at all. They look sickly and are kept in cages that are much too small for them. Any "vet" that works for them is a pathetic excuse of a doctor. They get paid by the store to not tell you everything you need to know, always go to your own vet and not a pet store vet. I don't know how any vet can love animals and work for a store where animals are not treated humanely. When we first moved to CB my mom was setting up a fish tank, she got what she thought was a loach. The lady had explained that loaches are docile fish and wouldn't bother her current fish (I had my doubts about it being a loach, but I didn't have the same fish knowledge as i do now). When my mom's fish looked like they were being nipped at and her small fish was practically half eaten, I looked up what the fish was. It was a bicher, a type of carnivorous fish. I had to educate the petshop owner on what kind of fish they had sold. Just walking around the store, it's dingy and the animals are not properly cared for. The reptiles do not have correct tanks or lighting. There was a dead baby bearded dragon in a tank being eaten by crickets. There was a baby chameleon laying at the bottom of it's tank, alive but barely. The small animals are kept in tanks insanely small and crowded. There was a mouse with an obvious infection in it's bloody bulging eyes, There were about 15 or more mice kept.in about a 5 gallon tank with the sick one. The birds are also in the same boat, and they also look sickly. They have no stimulation in their cages, not even one toy unless it's a large parrot. Some of the birds are also deformed, I've seen a few there missing a few nails or even toes completely. Makes you wonder who their suppliers are.The overcrowded conditions are a breeding ground for diseases and overall poor health for all the animals.
